Implementing Cookie Consent
To correctly register consent for conversions within your Afosto hosted checkout, it is essential to use a suitable cookie banner. Cookie banners are provided by parties that call themselves a CMP (consent management platform). This is how you register the visitors' consent for the use of cookies, which is then passed on to parties such as Google and Meta.
This banner (the platform) must be consistently deployed on both your webshop and during the checkout process. Google Tag Manager offers an efficient way to implement this. Follow these steps to set everything up correctly:
- Choose a CMP: Select a CMP that meets GDPR standards and is certified by Google. Examples include: **CookieScript (Recommended) **Cookiebot **OneTrust **TrustArc **Quantcast
-
Create a Google Tag Manager (GTM) account: Go to the Google Tag Manager website and register an account. Follow the instructions to create a new container for your website.
-
Install the cookie banner via Google Tag Manager: Go to 'Tags' within GTM and click 'New Tag'. Choose a tag type by selecting the CMP you have chosen from the list of tag templates or, if not available, use the 'Custom HTML' tag to insert the CMP code. Configure the trigger for this tag so that it loads on all pages of your webshop and checkout.
-
Copy the GTM container code into your webshop and checkout: Copy the GTM container code, which you can find in your GTM dashboard under the 'Install Google Tag Manager' section. Enter this container code in both the checkout settings in the OMS and in the GTAG plugin of your webshop in the CMS.
If you encounter any problems during the installation or configuration of your CMP via Google Tag Manager, please contact our support team at support@afosto.com. Our team is ready to assist you at every step of the process.
WARNING: Please note: Your hosted checkout operates via a subdomain. It is therefore crucial that your CMP (Consent Management Platform) is correctly configured to work with subdomains. Most CMP tools offer a specific setting to activate this functionality. Make sure you check and enable this option to remain compliant on all subdomains of your site.
