Explained: Creating a search engine in Instant Search
Introduction:
In this guide, you will learn how to create a search engine to search through one or more data sources within your Instant Search account. Creating search engines allows you to customize the search functionality for different parts of your website or for different language versions.
Preparation:
Before you begin, make sure you have at least one data source created in your account. If you haven't created a data source yet, follow the guide for adding a data source first.
Step-by-step guide:
Go to the admin environment of Instant Search to create search engines.
Consider the structure of your search engines. For example, you can create:
- A general search engine for your German website that searches through a data source with general pages.
- A search engine for your Dutch website that searches through specific data sources.
- A search engine for the knowledge base of your German website.
- A search engine for the knowledge base of your Dutch website.
With this structure, you can set up site searches for both the German and Dutch websites and connect them to a search bar in the header. Additionally, you can create a specific search bar for the knowledge base that is linked to the search engine connected to the knowledge base articles.
Click on 'Add search engine'. The following screen will open. Enter a unique name for your search engine in the 'Name' field.
Under 'Set up sources', click on 'Select source'. The following screen appears, allowing you to select the data source you want to link to your search engine.
After clicking 'Add', the data source will appear on your screen. If you want to link multiple data sources to the search engine, repeat the previous step.
Once you click 'Save', the search engine will appear in the overview.
With your new search engine created, you can now use it to provide a customized search experience on different parts of your website or for different language versions.
