What is customer-specific pricing?

Customer-specific pricing means prices that differ per customer or customer group: the regular buyer with their own pricing agreements, the wholesale customer with tiered discounts, the promotion that only applies to labelled contacts. In most webshop software that calls for plugins or custom development. With Afosto it sits inside the platform, with two building blocks you use separately or together:

The price rules run on the same engine as your order management: no syncing between a discount plugin and your back office, just one price that is determined in a single place.

Price lists per customer

a dedicated price per article for a contact or organisation, for fixed agreements that always apply

Price rules with conditions

discounts or surcharges that become active as soon as conditions are met, such as quantities, labels, email addresses or a period

One outcome, everywhere

the calculated price applies in your webshop, at the point of sale and in orders that come in through the API

How it works

From pricing agreement to automatic price

No spreadsheet next to your webshop and no discount codes as a workaround. This is how you turn a pricing agreement into a rule that runs itself in Afosto.

  1. Step 1

Pick a template or build your own

Start from a ready-made template: tiered discount, discount for contacts or organisations with a label, a discount code, a free product promotion or a discount on specific products. Prefer to decide everything yourself? Assemble the rule from scratch.

  2. Step 2

    Stack conditions with and/or

Every rule consists of conditions and a benefit. Combine conditions with and/or, give the rule a start and end date and set the order with priorities. The customer sees the rule by name in their shopping cart or checkout.

  3. Step 3

Fixed agreements in a price list

For customers with negotiated prices you create a price list with a dedicated price per article. Link the list to the contact and from that moment on that customer is charged their own prices. Large groups you link in one go with bulk actions.

  4. Step 4

The same price in every channel

The pricing engine calculates the price in a single place: when the order is assembled. That is why the price is identical in your webshop, at the point of sale and in orders that come in through the API or a marketplace, including the discount rules that apply at that moment.

All rules and price lists can also be managed through the API, including priorities in bulk. Handy when you want to push prices in from an ERP or your own system.

Stack conditions in the rule builder

The same rule system for shipping and payments

The rule builder does not stop at product prices. You set up your shipping costs and payment methods with conditions too, and per method you pick the provider yourself:

On top of that Afosto charges no transaction fees and no surcharge per shipping label: you pay your own carrier, broker or PSP contract and nothing more. To see how that difference adds up compared to platforms that do charge a percentage per transaction, take a look at our pricing.

Shipping rules

free shipping above an amount, a method only for certain customers or channels, different costs per region

Payment rules

a surcharge or availability per payment method, based on order value, country or customer group

Your own contract alongside a broker

link a dedicated integration per shipping method. High volume through your own PostNL contract, the rest through a broker like Innosend, Sendcloud, MyParcel, QLS or ParcelPro

A dedicated PSP per payment method

iDEAL through one provider, credit card through another. Afosto works with Pay., Mollie, Adyen and CM Payments

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about customer-specific pricing

The questions retailers and wholesalers ask us most often about price rules.

What is customer-specific pricing?

Prices that differ per customer or customer group, such as negotiated purchase prices for regular buyers or tiered discounts for high-volume customers. In Afosto you handle that with price lists (a fixed price per article per customer) and price rules (discounts or surcharges based on conditions). Both apply automatically in the webshop, point of sale and API orders.

What is the difference between a price list and a price rule?

A price list holds fixed prices per article and you link it to a contact: that customer is always charged those prices. A price rule is conditional: it becomes active once conditions are met, for example from ten items, for contacts with a certain label, or within a promotion period. You can combine them: a fixed price list for the base and rules for temporary promotions on top.

Can I set up tiered prices?

Yes, with the tiered discount template. Per tier you specify from which quantity or purchase amount which discount applies, for example five percent from ten items and ten percent from twenty-five. The discount is applied automatically in the shopping cart and the customer sees the rule by name at checkout.

Can I give a discount to a specific group of customers?

Yes. There are templates for a discount to contacts with a label, organisations with a label and specific email addresses. Label your B2B customers, for instance, and give them ten percent off the entire range, or limit a promotion to members of your loyalty programme.

Do the prices also work at the point of sale and through the API?

Yes. The price is calculated in the central pricing layer that all orders pass through, regardless of the channel. A price list or price rule therefore applies automatically at the point of sale and to orders that come in through the API or a marketplace connection. Price rules and price lists can also be managed through the API themselves, including priorities in bulk.

What does the pricing engine cost?

Nothing extra: price rules and price lists are part of the platform. Afosto also charges no transaction fees on top of your payments and no surcharge per shipping label; you only pay your own PSP or carrier contract. On the pricing page you can see what the subscription price is actually based on.
