What is an order picker app?
An order picker app guides warehouse staff step by step through gathering orders. The app replaces paper packing slips with a digital pick list on a handheld scanner: for every item you see the pick location, the product photo and the quantity, and you confirm each pick with a scan. Without an app, a warehouse runs on printed lists. That works fine until it gets busy, and then you see three things happen:
Afosto's order picker app is part of the WMS and works on the same stock as your order management, webshop and point of sale. Every pick updates the stock straight away, across all channels at once.
Does something still need to happen to an item before it ships, such as embroidery or gift wrapping? Services like that run as a task within the same pick and pack flow.
How it works
From pick list to parcel, with the scanner in hand
This is the route every order travels through your warehouse. Everything you now print, search for or retype is live on the handheld.
- Step 1
The pick list is ready automatically
A pick-list preset filters pickable orders by location, delivery date or sales channel and bundles them into a single list for your warehouse. New orders join the next run on their own. Manual works too: select orders and turn them into a pick list with one click.

- Step 2
Picking on the handheld, with location and photo
The pick list opens on the scanner. For every item you see the product photo, the barcode and the pick location in the warehouse. Scan the item to confirm: only a matching barcode counts as a pick, so the wrong product never makes it into the box.

- Step 3
Confirm quantities, flag discrepancies instantly
Several units of the same item are confirmed in one action. Is something not in the expected spot? Flag the item as unavailable and the rest of the list carries on, while the flag becomes visible to your stock management.

- Step 4
Pack, label and ship
After picking, you finish the order on the same handheld: choose the label, and Afosto creates the parcel with track and trace. Through the Spooler app the shipping label rolls straight out of your printer, and the customer and the sales channel are notified automatically.

Every pick updates your stock straight away in your webshop, point of sale and marketplaces. That way your team keeps picking all day without anyone printing lists or retyping statuses.
More than a digital packing slip
The features that make the difference on a busy day
Digitising a pick list is step one. The difference shows when it gets busy: lots of orders, several pickers, stock that does not match.

Paper pick list versus order picker app
Printing works, until it gets busier. This is the difference you notice every day:
| Onderdeel | Paper pick list | Afosto order picker app |
|---|---|---|
| Finding the pick location | From memory or searching | Shown per item |
| Wrong item | You only spot it at the customer | Scan blocks the pick |
| Order changed or cancelled | Printout knows nothing | List is live |
| Multiple orders at once | Sorting stacks of paper | Batch with sorting round |
| Updating stock | Afterwards, by hand | Straight away with every pick |
| Shipping label | Separate print step | Automatic on completion |
The order picker app is not a standalone tool: it is part of the Afosto WMS, on the same stock as your webshop, order management and point of sale. See the full overview of the order picker app's features, or the pricing for OMS and WMS.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions about the order picker app
The questions warehouse managers ask us before they move from paper to the scanner.
What exactly is an order picker app?
An order picker app is software that guides warehouse staff through gathering orders. Instead of a printed packing slip, a handheld scanner shows the pick location, the product photo and the quantity for each item, and you confirm every pick with a barcode scan. At Afosto the app is part of the WMS, so stock and order status are updated straight away.
How does the app prevent the wrong item from being picked?
Every pick requires a matching barcode scan. Scan an item that does not belong in the pick list and the app finds no match, so the pick does not go through. On top of that you see the product photo and the pick location as a check. That way the wrongly picked item, the most common cause of returns, is stopped at the source.
Does the app also plot a walking route through the warehouse?
No, and that is a deliberate choice. The app shows the fixed pick location per item (such as A-01-02), so every member of staff knows straight away where an item is. Lay your warehouse out sensibly, for instance with fast movers near the packing table, and you keep walking distances short. An automatically calculated route promises more than it delivers in practice when stock keeps shifting.
Can I pick multiple orders at once?
Yes. With batch picking you bundle several orders into one pick list and pick everything in a single round. A sorting step then follows in which each order gets its own spot, so the parcels are sorted correctly. Presets automatically decide which orders join a run.
Does the app work on existing handheld scanners?
The app runs in the browser at scan.afosto.app and works on common Android handheld scanners, tablets and smartphones. So you do not have to buy special hardware if you already have scanners. To print labels you connect a printer through the Spooler app.
What happens to my stock while picking?
Every confirmed pick updates the stock straight away in the Afosto platform. Your webshop, point of sale and marketplaces see the current level right away, so you do not keep selling stock that is already in a box. Several members of staff can pick at the same time without getting in each other's way.
How quickly can my team work with this?
The pick flow is kept deliberately simple: open the list, walk to the location on screen, scan and confirm. New staff get up to speed quickly as a result, without knowing the warehouse by heart. The basic setup, with locations and products, is in place within a day at most customers.
What does the order picker app cost?
The order picker app is part of the Afosto platform: a fixed monthly price with no transaction fees and no separate licence per scanner or member of staff. See the pricing for OMS and WMS on the pricing page, or create a free account to get started.
