Preventing Invalid Addresses in E-commerce With Afosto’s New Address Validation

Every e-commerce retailer knows the problem: a customer enters an incorrect address and the order gets stuck. Or worse, the package is packed and shipped, only to be returned because the address turns out to be invalid. This costs time, causes frustration, and leads to unnecessary shipping costs.

That’s why Afosto is launching a new feature in our Order Management System that prevents this problem: invalid addresses are automatically detected and placed in a separate grid.

How does it work?

When an order comes in, Afosto immediately checks the address for the key requirements needed to create a shipping label. If the address is invalid or incomplete, the order appears in a separate list: the “Attention Required” tab.

From here, a staff member can correct the address and only then forward the order to the fulfilment partner or warehouse.

The result:

  • No orders left stuck in the system
  • No packages returned due to incorrect addresses
  • Fewer errors and less manual correction work
  • Lower fulfilment and shipping costs

FrancisbyFB: Case Study of Address Validation

The fast-growing Shopify retailer FrancisbyFB was one of the first customers to use this feature.

Their team regularly faced the issue that incorrect addresses only became visible during picking or even when with the carrier. With the new grid, FrancisbyFB can correct addresses immediately before the order reaches the Warehouse Management System or the order picker app.

This saves their staff valuable time daily and ensures orders leave the door faster and without errors.

Why This Matters for Retailers

For e-commerce businesses, scalability is crucial. Every mistake not only costs money but also impacts customer satisfaction. By automating address validation early in the process, your order flow stays smooth.

This feature also integrates seamlessly with other smart functionalities in Afosto, such as crossdocking and automated inventory management. Together, they provide a powerful foundation for a more efficient fulfilment process.

Frequently Asked Questions

The order appears under the “Attention Required” tab and will only be processed once a staff member has corrected the address.

The address validation works in Afosto’s Order Management System and is directly integrated with fulfilment partners and the warehouse.

Fewer returns, lower shipping costs, and a faster order process.

Conclusion

Thanks to its new address validation, Afosto prevents orders from getting stuck or being shipped incorrectly. Retailers like FrancisbyFB are already benefitting from this smart grid that reduces time spent and costs.
